A great book but sadly out of date. A new updated edition focused on MySQL 5.0+ is sorely needed as there have been so many changes from previous versions of MySQL. Still a useful relational database overview of basic MySQL design. If the book were current, a def|About the Author|Chad Russell is a programmer and network administrator who owns his own Internet hosting company. He previously has written on MySQL, PHP, and other topics.

* Shows how to take advantage of MySQL's built-in functions, minimizing the need to process data once it's been retrieved from the database.

* Demonstrates how to write and use advanced and complex queries to cut down on (middleware) application logic, including nested sub-queries and virtual tables (added since MySQL 4.1).
